Bangkok Tree House
Located away from the urban chaos on the tiny island of Bang Krachao on the Chao Phraya River, the Bangkok Tree House is a 12-room boutique hotel with a commitment to sustainability. The hotel, which opened in January 2012, is the first of its kind in the city, accessible only by boat and constructed by recycled metal and bamboo. Guests can choose their level of “roughing it,” and with everything from “nests” (indoor, artsy air conditioned rooms) to secluded open-air “perches” in the trees, to a floating mattress on the river. The hotel admits that the tree house is not for everyone, proudly toting their commitment to green practices. Their green (sustainable) practices include everything from solar and wind powered outdoor lighting to 100% organic cleaning products, bathroom amenities and food, to hiring employees within walking distance of the hotel and removing 1 kilogram (2.2 lbs) of trash from the Chao Phraya River for every booking made.
Bring a picnic to the Si Nakhon Khuean Khan Botanical Park. The hotel can pack you a 100% organic, homegrown lunch and suggest the best spots.
