What is Sustainable Travel?
Sustainable and socially responsible travel is a holistic approach to minimize the negative impact of travel on the environment, community, and economy; while also making a positive contribution.
Why it Matters
As the world grows smaller, travel and tourism has a greater effect on the environment, community and economy of each destination. This is especially apparent in countries with a recent influx of tourism, or with limited resources and lower standards of living. As global citizens who have the benefit of exploring other countries, it is our responsibility to not only be sustainable and responsible travelers, but to also support businesses who do the same.
Why it's Different
Many reputable websites offer resources and information on how to travel “green.” But reducing the environmental impact of travel is just one piece of the equation. Traveling sustainably and responsibly is also about understanding, respecting, and supporting the local community, culture, and economy.
