Indonesia:
Breathe in Bali

11 days in bukit, ubud, & the gili islands

The Trip

There’s a palpable energy to the island of Bali. The culture, the ancient Hindu temples, the (incredible) cuisine. From the sun-soaked beaches of Bukit to the terraced rice fields of Ubud, and the chill island vibes of your choice between Gili Trawangan and Gili Air, this 11 day trip might just be the perfect island escape. Starting in South Bali, get into relaxation mode with a Balinese massage at a luxury spa, and watch Fire Dance and Kecak at the clifftop Uluwatu Temple. Head up the mountain to the lush jungles and magnificent rice paddies of Ubud, where you'll explore the lesser-visited waterfalls and villages of the area, learn to cook Balinese food and jump on a bicycle for a countryside cycling tour. The last few days of this Designed Trip take you to the laid back Gili Islands for some great snorkeling and well deserved rest and relaxation. Take in one beautiful sunset after another, from the beaches to the jungle and back!

The Itinerary

Bukit
  • Day 1: Arrive in Bali, on the southern tip of the island, where a private driver will be waiting to take you to your oceanside luxury resort (or similar). Check in, get settled and take a dip in the pool.
  • Day 2: Wake up to views of the Indian Ocean and enjoy a relaxed morning with a Balinese breakfast at your resort. In the late afternoon, a driver will take you to Uluwatu, one of the most famous temples on the island, for a private tour and traditional Kecak and Fire Dance performance at sunset, perched atop steep cliffs. Afterwards it’s off to Jimbaran Bay Beach for a tasty, beachside seafood dinner at a local restaurant.
  • Day 3: Enjoy a relaxed morning at the pool before making your way to a luxury spa, where you’ll be pampered with a 1.5 hour Balinese massage treatment. Following the spa experience, relax at your hotel, hit the beach - with the option of a 1 hour surf lesson and board rental - or grab a cocktail at one of the nearby beach bars.

Ubud
  • Day 4: Wake up, grab some breakfast and have a relaxed morning before packing up and checking out of your beachside resort. A private driver will meet you at the hotel and drive you to the beautiful jungle oasis of Ubud. Arrive in this hilltop town and take in the relaxed energy, amazing restaurants and epic rainforest views that this little slice of paradise is known for. Check in to your boutique hotel and gaze out upon the jungle below. Stroll into town to explore the local shops, boutiques, and Ubud Art Market before sitting down to a delicious dinner. Or, if you’re feeling a bit more adventurous, choose to rent a scooter and cruise along countryside roads and past terraced rice paddies on two wheels.
  • Day 5: Your first full day in Ubud is all about getting off the tourist trail and exploring some of the lesser-visited sights around this magical area. After waking up to the sounds of monkeys and eating a healthy breakfast, your local guide will pick you up from your boutique resort for a day full of discovery. Head to the lush jungle, walk through the forest to incredible waterfalls, visit local villages, find hidden temples, and eat a traditional Balinese lunch, before the day is done.
  • Day 6: Wake up early for a countryside bicycle tour, where you’ll cycle through idyllic rice fields, quiet farmland, and small villages, visiting sacred Hindu temples with a local guide. The rest of the day is free to visit temples or explore the town a bit more. In the evening, consider going to Ubud Palace for a Legong dance performance, which includes intricate finger movements, complicated footwork, exaggerated facial expressions and beautiful costumes.
  • Day 7: On your final day in Ubud, either sleep in and relax at the resort, or go on an optional sunrise hike to the spectacular Mount Batur. In the afternoon, join a small group Balinese cooking class at a local organic farm, harvesting vegetables and herbs from the garden for dishes you’ll prepare in the open-air kitchen.

Gili Islands
  • Day 8: Enjoy breakfast at your resort before packing up for a short travel day to the stunning Gili Islands. A private car will take you to South Bali, where you’ll board a fast boat to your choice of either Gili Trawangan or Gili Air. Gili Trawangan (AKA Gili T) is home to a great night market, plenty of restaurants, and a vibrant nightlife scene, while Gili Air offers a quieter, more relaxed vibe. Both islands are car-free, replaced with horse-drawn carriages, and have amazing white sand beaches with crystal-clear water. Whichever you choose, check into your island bungalow and head straight to the beach to dip your toes in the sea. Swing by one of the island’s great beach bars and sip a happy hour cocktail before watching the sunset.
  • Day 9: Wake up in paradise and hop in a traditional Jukung boat for a private snorkel tour. Cruise to the offshore reefs of Gili Air and the famous underwater statues and white sand beaches of Gili Meno. The rest of the day is free to head to the beach or relax by the pool. Decisions, decisions.
  • Day 10: It’s the last full day of your trip, so sleep in and have a relaxed breakfast at your resort. The day is yours to do what you want. Explore the island by bike, window shop at some of the island’s boutiques, or get a cheap, local massage on the beach. Take in your last Indonesian sunset before grabbing dinner and settling in for the night.
  • Day 11: After breakfast, head to the pier and get on the fast boat back to Bali. Either talk to us about extending your trip (a few days on nearby Lombok would be a great addition!), or just hop on the plane for your flight home.

FAQs

WHAT IS A DESIGNED TRIP?
A Designed Trip is a pre-designed travel plan based on our personal, first-hand travel experiences in each destination. As they are pre-designed, our Designed Trips have been created as a turnkey travel option and can be booked and delivered in as little as one week.
CAN I MAKE ANY CHANGES TO A DESIGNED TRIP?
Absolutely! Pre-designed doesn’t mean there isn’t any flexibility. Whether you want to shorten or lengthen your trip, switch out a destination or change an activity, let us know. If, however, you want a trip built around your specific desires, a Custom Trip might be more appropriate. We can help you decide, so get in touch.
HOW LONG DOES THE PROCESS TAKE?
Once you’ve selected your Designed Trip and chosen between a Boutique, Luxury Boutique or Luxury experience, your trip can be booked and delivered in as little as one week. If you would like to make some changes to your trip, such as including an alternative activity, shortening or lengthening your trip, then this can take a bit longer.
HOW DO I KNOW HOW MUCH MY DESIGNED TRIP WILL COST?
Once you have decided on your Designed Trip, your dates, and any adjustments we will provide a personalized itinerary and pricing for your trip. We have included base pricing on each Designed Trip page to give you an idea as to what the final cost might be, but prices can fluctuate depending on time of year and any personalization. Get in touch and we can help.
