Breathe in Bali

11 days in sanur, ubud, & the gili islands

The Trip

There’s a palpable energy to the island of Bali. The culture, the ancient Hindu temples, the (incredible) cuisine. From the sun-soaked beaches of Sanur to the terraced rice fields of Ubud, and the chill island vibes of Gili Trawangan this 11 day trip might just be the perfect island escape. Starting in South Bali, get an in-depth view of Balinese cuisine on a private food tour with a local and watch Fire Dance and Kecak at the clifftop Uluwatu Temple. Head up the mountain to the lush jungles and magnificent rice paddies of Ubud, where you'll take a jungle yoga class with a local instructor, relax during a massage, explore the lesser-visited sights of the area, and either learn to cook Balinese food or jump on a bicycle for a countryside cycling tour. The last few days of this Designed Trip take you to the laid back Gili Islands for some great snorkeling and well deserved rest and relaxation. Take in one beautiful sunset after another, from the beaches to the jungle and back!

The Itinerary

South Bali
  • Day 1: Arrive in Bali, on the southern tip of the island, where a private driver will be waiting to take you to your beachfront luxury resort (see below). Check in, get settled and take a dip in the pool.
  • Day 2: Wake up to views of the Indian Ocean and enjoy a relaxed morning with a Balinese breakfast at your resort. In the late afternoon, a driver will take you to Uluwatu, one of the most famous temples on the island, for a private tour and traditional Kecak and Fire Dance performance at sunset, perched atop steep cliffs. Afterwards it’s off to Jimbaran Bay Beach for a tasty, beachside seafood dinner at a local restaurant.
  • Day 3: Enjoy a relaxed morning at the pool before being picked up in the early afternoon for a private food tour with a local Balinese guide. Visit local markets, street food stalls, and warungs (restaurants) as you learn all about Balinese cuisine. After the tour, relax at your hotel, hit the beach, or grab a cocktail at one of the nearby beach bars.

Ubud
  • Day 4: Wake up, grab some breakfast and have a relaxed morning before packing up and checking out of your beachside resort. A private driver will meet you at the hotel and drive you to the slightly touristy, yet super peaceful jungle oasis called Ubud.. Arrive in this hilltop town and take in the relaxed energy, amazing restaurants and epic rainforest views that this little slice of paradise is known for. Check in to jungle resort (see below) and gaze out upon the jungle below.
  • Day 5: Eat a healthy breakfast before getting picked up from your resort for a private, 3-hour jungle yoga class and massage. Your instructor for the day will bring you to a hidden oasis in the jungle, where you’ll start with guided meditation, then have a 1-hour yoga class, followed by a relaxing Baliinese essential oil massage. The rest of the day is free to visit temples or explore town a bit more. In the evening, consider going to Ubud Palace for a Legong dance performance.
  • Day 6: The second full day in Ubud is all about getting off the tourist trail and exploring some of the lesser-visited sights around this magical area. After waking up to the sounds of monkeys and eating a healthy breakfast, your local guide will pick you up from your resort for a day full of discovery. Heading to the lush jungle of the Bedugal area, you’ll hike through the rice paddies to incredible waterfalls, visit local villages, find hidden temples, eat a delicious Balinese lunch, and stop off at a coffee plantation before the day is done.
  • Day 7: Today you have a choice between two authentic Balinese experiences. You can wake up early for a countryside bicycle tour, where you’ll cycle through idyllic rice fields, quiet farmland, and small villages, visiting sacred Hindu temples with a local guide. Or you can sleep in, relax at the resort, and then join a small group Balinese cooking class at a local organic farm, harvesting vegetables and herbs from the garden for dishes you’ll prepare in a lovely outdoor kitchen that afternoon.

Gili Trawangan
  • Day 8: Enjoy a nice breakfast at your resort before packing up for a short travel day to the stunning Gili Islands. A private car will take you to South Bali, where you’ll board a fast boat for Gili Trawangan, a small, laid-back island with beautiful beaches and crystal clear water. Check in to your luxe island bungalow (see below) and head to the white sand to dip your toes in the sea.
  • Day 9: Wake up in paradise and after a quick breakfast, make your way to the beach for a snorkel tour aboard a Balinese pontoon boat. Cruise to the offshore reefs of Gili Air and the famous underwater statues and white sand beaches of Gili Meno. Have a delicious BBQ lunch with a cold Bintang beer. The rest of the day is free to head to the beach or relax by the pool. Decisions, decisions.
  • Day 10: It’s the last full day of your trip, so sleep in and have a relaxed breakfast at your resort. The day is yours to do what you want. Explore the island by bike, window shop at some of Gili T’s boutiques, or get a cheap, local massage on the beach. Take in your last Indonesian sunset before grabbing dinner and settling in for the night.
  • Day 11: After breakfast, head to the pier and get on the fast boat back to Bali. Either talk to us about extending your trip (a few days on nearby Lombok would be a great addition!), or just hop on the plane for your flight home.
